Arsenal fans are not exactly shocked here in the Football Transfer Tavern at the claim coming from the Daily Mail who think that Arsene Wenger is keen to land Swansea City’s star striker Michu this summer.
Wenger has often spoken of his admiration of the forward who has had a brilliant debut season with the Swans and often even lamented the fact that Michael Laudrup landed him first. Now with a season of proven Premier League experience behind him – not to mention the host of goals he managed to score, Michu’s stock is rising higher than ever.
This of course has lead Wenger to eye up a move for the former Celta Vigo and Rayo Vallecano man – who would be available for considerably less than either of his other two rumoured targets – Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney and also highly rated £25 million Serie A star, Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic.
Quite what Laudrup and indeed Swansea think of this in the same summer they are facing a fight to keep skipper Ashley Williams is another thing and it was only recently that Michu himself had pledged his future to the Jacks, claiming he was very happy at the Liberty Stadium. However the lure of more money and indeed a chance of Champions League football – especially in a World Cup year can do strange things to a player.
