The Daily Mail have Arsenal fans on the edge of their bar stools here in the Football Transfer Tavern today as they note that the club may buy back former captain Cesc Fabregas this summer.
The Barcelona midfielder of course enjoyed his best spell at Arsenal and was so good that it earned him a move back to boyhood club.
Now however it seems that the exit door is looking ever closer for the player who has failed to break into the midfield as much as he would liked, often being a bit part player when Andres Iniesta or Xavi were substituted or unavailable.
Not that anyone would think less of the player for failing to oust either of the two best playmakers of a generation – Thiago Alcantara is having much the same problem and is also looking to the exit door at the Camp Nou.
Arsenal are of course not the only club interested in Cesc – Manchester United and David Moyes have shown more than a passing interest in bringing the player back to the Premier League and indeed link him up with Robin van Persie again, yet Arsene Wenger is ready to exercise the first option to buy clause in the contract of Fabregas and bring the player back to the Emirates Stadium for around £25 million.
Will Arsenal really exercise the buy back option in Fabregas’ contract this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
