Arsenal turn to Colombian star to solve defensive crisis

The transfer window may have slammed shut earlier in the week but there are still fans in the Football Transfer Tavern keeping half an eye out on potential arrivals.

That is because clubs can still sign unattached free agents with no worries of the deals going through.

And according to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger is planning on doing exactly that with a move for 38-year old veteran Colombian defender Mario Yepes.

The Gunners were linked with a whole host of defenders this summer but attempts to lure Liverpool’s Daniel Agger and Olympiakos’ Kostas Manolas to North London proved unsuccessful.

Their need for a centre back enhanced dramatically when captain Thomas Vermaelen swapped the Emirates Stadium for Barcelona.

However, Wenger’s hunt for a defender proved fruitless and now it seems that Yepes will be the man to provide defensive cover for them.

Reports suggest that Yepes is keen on proving himself in England and a move could be done within the next two weeks.

Arsenal fans. Are you disappointed that you were unable to bring a top class defender into the club or can Yepes do a job? Let us know your thoughts below.
