Gianluigi Buffon, formally the out and out number one goalkeeper in the world. Now, out of action with a back injury for which he had surgery in the summer, he finds himself on the periphery.
As much as he is saying that he will be staying at Juventus, rumours have been flying around that he wants to leave and has had very little to do with his team mates while he has been out. Sometimes, there is no smoke without fire.
Even if Buffon does want to stay at Juventus, there is some doubt that Juventus would want to keep him. They sit forth in Serie A without him, do they really need a 32-year old with potential back problems (as damaging to a goalkeeper as a cruciate is to an outfield player), especially one who, if the rumours are true, could be potentially damaging to morale. It may just be the perfect time for the ‘old lady’ to capitalise on him financially before his price drops through the floorboards.
So, if they do decide to sell, where would Buffon go?
Ever since rumbling of discontent were voiced out of Turin, Sir Alex Ferguson has been interested and if the Glazers new found funds allow it, Alex would be logging onto paypal to transfer funds to Turin quicker than a Usain Bolt 100 meters…If he has a Broadband fast enough!
Why would he be so quick?
Because, with the Reina situation up in the air, Arsene Wenger may just see Buffon as the experienced influence to marshal his young guns to glory.
