Arsenal warned off in transfer pursuit

gonalons.jpgToday in the Football Transfer Tavern, Arsenal fans are looking up with amusement at the news from Here In The City  that their manager has been told to keep his hands off a Lyon duo by one of his very first signings.

Arsene Wenger has shown more than a passing interest in both Maxime Gonalons and Clement Grenier in the past season or so and the tavern was buzzing with talk about the players not so long ago.

Now it seems that Remi Garde – now a coach at the Stade Gerland feels the need to explain to Wenger exactly why he cannot have the duo – despite the money on offer and indeed the chance for the two players to experience life in the top flight of English football. The former disciple to Wenger claimed: “There are rumours about some players ready to leave the club, but there is nothing true.

“(In) recent years we have won the French Cup and came third in the league. The transfer of Gonalons Grenier would hurt us a lot.

“They are part of our project and I want to build the team around them. If Grenier has reached such a level (it) is because he has worked really hard.”

Lyon of course are currently watching on with horror as now not only Paris Saint-Germain but also Monaco are buying players like there is no tomorrow and firmly pushing the former dominant force in French football down the pecking order. Wenger meanwhile is considering a whole host of summer targets to get his side back to where he feels they should be and will not let such comments deter him from his chase.

Will either Grenier or Gonalons flee for the Emirates Stadium this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
