There’s a real optimism amongst the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern now that the club can finally field a marquee marksman.
Having waited so long to see a big name striker brought to the Emirates, the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette has our resident Gooners talking up their chances of a genuine title tilt once more.
Still, their squad is still littered with players who’ve let the club down over the years and our north London locals are eager to see Arsene Wenger trim some of the fat, heading into the new campaign. So, reports from ESPN have proved rather interesting.
They claim crock midfielder Jack Wilshere is keen to stay with the club, despite recent links away. The England international spent last season on loan with Bournemouth without pulling up any trees, and the likes of Antalyaspor and Sampdoria have been credited with an interest of late.
Still, the 24-year-old is reportedly keen to stay with Arsenal and, if he is to leave, would apparently want to remain in England for family reasons. Indeed, capital counterparts Crystal Palace and West Ham United have been touted as potential landing spots for Wilshere, should he fail to convince Le Prof.
He’s thought to be determined to prove his worth to Wenger in pre-season, before making any decision in regards to his next move.
While a popular figure in the Tavern, Wilshere’s constant injury problems mean his exit wouldn’t cause too much upset amongst our Arsenal-mad punters.
Clearly, Wilshere is a major talent. However, if Arsenal really are going to change and seriously challenge for the title, they need to act ruthlessly when it comes to the England international.
While letting him leave after investing so much into him over the years may be gut-wrenching, he proved during a loan stint on the south coast that he struggles for consistency, even when playing regularly.
