26-year-old valued at £10m in Arsenal transfer report ahead of new campaign

Still celebrating their Community Shield win over Chelsea, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern remain dancing on the pool tables.

With Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac both impressing at Wembley, our resident Gooners are dreaming of a potential title tilt and are hoping Arsene Wenger continues to mix his squad up before the end of the transfer window.

So, reports from the Sun have proven rather intriguing. They claim Emirates outcast Gabriel Paulista is free to leave north London, with La Liga outfit Valencia reportedly keen on a move for the Brazilian defender.

Indeed, the Gunners are understood to be ready to allow the 26-year-old a departure if they receive a suitable offer for him, thought to value the former Villarreal man at around £10m.

Signed back in January 2015, Gabriel has been part of the squad that’s won two FA Cups in three years, though has struggled to command a regular starting berth at the club, particularly now they’ve switched to a three-man defence.

Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding, Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny all battle for central defensive berths and it seems Gabriel is becoming increasingly surplus to requirements under Le Prof.

Though he’s had some good games, the Arsenal fans in our bar wouldn’t be too concerned to see him go.

Landlord’s Verdict:

If Arsenal are going to sell before they buy, Gabriel is one of the most expendable in their squad. Should they be able to raise £10m for him, it’d be a nice boost to the coffers as Wenger chases more targets for his potential title tilt.
