City linked with a logical move for a Serie A star, whilst the latest rumour involving United sounds like the work of a stark raving lunatic.
Manchester City are the first club to contact Napoli over their striker Edinson Cavani. That’s according to talkSPORT, who heard from Italy that the club are ready to move for the Uruguayan.
Speculation has allegedly been “rife” all season about their interest in the man who’s netted 48 times in two years for the Naples outfit, and as the season draws to it’s conclusion the soon to be champions are already earmarking players with the potential to win them more honours. As for Cavani’s current side, they aren’t looking too good for a Champions League place and may be willing to sell up for the right offer.
Cavani himself will want to continue his progress as one of Europe’s most feared forwards, and isn’t going to want to slog it in the Europa League whilst there’s squillions of pounds on offer and a place at Europe’s top table..
La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that City wanted to offer a large lump sum and one of their more, shall we say, rubbish players as a makeweight. But Napoli aren’t interested in the likes of Edin Dzeko, and would insist upon a generous £40 million in order for negotiations to proceed.
Mancini wouldn’t regret making such a purchase, as the player pretty much fulfills every requirement they have at this moment. With Mario Balottelli seemingly off pursuing another career, and Edin Dzeko too accustomed to getting into Sergio Aguero’s way, Cavani would add an extra dimension to the champions Elect.
talkSPORT again treat us to a striker link to Manchester, and this time they really take us for a ride on the transfer merry-go-round. Unfortunately the fun doesn’t last long, when you begin to actually think about what it is they’re trying to make you believe.
Apparently Manchester United fancy their chances of grabbing Robin Van Persie.
It’s now common knowledge that the 28-year-old has just one year left on his current deal at the Emirates, and the club have been dogged with speculation about their star man’s future all season. Van Persie, who has smashed in 35 goals this term, has consistently stated his intentions to hold talks with boss Arsene Wenger at the end of the campaign.
Having enjoyed such a good year for Arsenal, becoming captain as well as the clubs talisman, and with his side stumbling towards a possible 3rd place finish, it’s surely poposterous he’d leave for one of his teams fiercest rivals. As for United, they’d be better off going for a half decent midfielder, or trying to get Javier Hernandez playing properly again.
The Red Devils are the latest club to “join the race” for the sought after player, with Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona and of course Manchester City all standing by with a bucket load of cash.
