Aaron Ramsey's chances of receiving a new deal to remain at the Emirates appear to be very slim, leaving an interesting door open for where he might be playing his football next season.

The Welshman, whose current contract expires at the end of this season, had a new deal withdrawn by Arsenal in September and has since been told that deal would remain off the table and that he would exit the club on a free transfer come May.

Ramsey, who joined the Gunners in 2008, has since been linked with various local and foreign clubs with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus reportedly interested in him. But a new report by the Independent suggests that German champions Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign Ramsey and feel they might be in pole position to pin him down above the other interests.

A horrible start to the season has left Bayern rattled and although much of their poor form has been blamed on manager Niko Kovac, the current squad has also been mainly responsible. A change in squad personnel has therefore become a priority for the club, paving the way for Ramsey to move to Munich.

Ramsey's longstanding loyalty to Arsenal might not have received the praise it deserves and although one can understand the club's ambition to turn a new page in the post Arsène Wenger-Ivan Gazidis-era, Ramsey however is worthy of a deal at one of Europe's biggest clubs.

At 27, the midfielder still has lots to offer and given the age of some of the Bayern players, he could bring new energy to the club. After a decade at the North London club, the time is also right for Ramsey to broaden his horizons and playing in a competitive league like the Bundesliga which will almost guarantee Champions League football as well, suggests he is destined to be a great fit for the club.

Bayern's derby loss at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday emphasised their need for a attacking midfielder like Ramsey. With Robert Lewandowski leading the attack, Frank Ribery, Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry were the players operating behind him with Muller playing in the number ten role. Add Ramsey to either one of those positions, but particularly the central role, then Bayern would definitely be more balanced and fluent going forward.

After all Ramsey's been through during his time at Arsenal, with some horrific injuries, the time and destination is perfect for him to take the next step in his career, while it is also very much deserved.
