Rather strangely, for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, there isn’t much talk of coming and goings amongst the Arsenal fans propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern considering the fact we’re all currently entrenched deep into the January window.
Our north London locals are resigned to the fact Arsene Wenger is hugely unlikely to open his chequebook and enter the New Year sales, though reports emanating out of Italy have at least provided some food for thought on the transfer front today.
According to CalcioMercato, Gunners star Jack Wilshere remains a target for Serie A titans AC Milan as he enters the final 18 months on his deal at the Emirates. The 24-year-old was touted as a potential target for the Rossoneri during the summer window when he was allowed to leave his boyhood club on loan, though eventually moved to Bournemouth for the season.
However, those at the San Siro are understood to have kept keen eyes over his situation on the south coast and recent reports suggest Arsenal are yet to offer him a new deal, despite the fact his contract is beginning to wind down. Furthermore, this particular story suggests Mesut Ozil wants to take the No10 shirt in north London before he pens a new deal with the club.
Despite starting his career with so much hype, the Arsenal fans in the Tavern aren’t overly fussed if Wilshere leaves, such are the nature of his disappointing few years.
