Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern still can’t quite believe it’s got to May and they still don’t know what the future holds for manager Arsene Wenger, who has come under a lot of pressure.
Defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend ensured the Lilywhites would finish above Arsenal for the first-time in Wenger’s reign in North London, increasing the pressure on the Frenchman to walk away this summer.
Wenger’s current deal at Arsenal expires at the end of the season and there has been no word yet as to what his future holds, though it’s becoming clear that the Frenchman’s future will have a drastic effect on the squad.
Quoted by TalkSport, the agent of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud admitted a final decision on his client’s future will be made once they are aware of the future of Wenger, although he stated it wasn’t the only crucial aspect.
“When we know exactly what Arsene Wenger is doing, we will ask ourselves questions. We will think about what is possible and what is not possible. But his future is not only linked with that of the manager.”
“It is linked to what Arsenal are going to do and if there is a change at Arsenal in terms of how Olivier is implicated at the project. Things have not changed since his contract extension. Our desire is be at Arsenal long term.”
Giroud has been a bit-part player this season but has returned to the starting line-up in recent matches as Arsenal have adopted a new formation, although the Frenchman has failed to find the net and our landlord feels he will leave this summer.
