Our resident Arsenal fans haven’t had an awful to cheer about this season, though they could finally be handed at least some good news in the shape of a certain Riyad Mahrez.
The PFA Player of the Year has been remarkable for Leicester City this season, helping spearhead their most unlikely of title wins with a series of scintillating performances.
Such is the nature of his majestic form, he’s been linked with a move to a number of top clubs despite the Foxes’ coronation as champions of England.
While the Guardian claim the East Mildands outfit will indeed open contract negotiations with the Algerian playmaker, the player’s agent has hinted there could be a chance he may leave.
‘Yes of course there is a possibility’, revealed Kamel Bengougam.
‘When you have been playing the way Riyad has this season it is bound to attract attention.
‘He is very happy with Leicester and of course it has been a fantastic season. They will play in the Champions League next year as well so he would be happy to stay.
‘But at his age if the opportunity comes to play for a big team then we would have to think about it.’
‘I’d say it’s 50/50 at the moment whether he stays or goes.”
The 24-year old only arrived from Le Harve for a meagre £375,000 in 2014, though is meteoric rise is said to have attracted the interest of the Gunners and Chelsea.
Leicester insist they are aiming to keep their top talent, though a player of Mahrez’s ability is likely to have suitors within Europe’s elite.
Do Leicester have any hope at all of keeping Mahrez, even after winning the title?
