Arsenal will be hoping to pick up their first win of the Premier League season against West Ham at the weekend.

Both sides have made a poor start to the new campaign, losing their opening two fixtures. Unai Emery was handed a tough opening fixtures against Manchester City and Chelsea but earned praise for implementing his passing style despite the baptism of fire. The Gunners welcome the Hammers to the Emirates at the weekend looking to get their season back on track.

Emery’s new signings are still settling into life in North London, but the performances of Mesut Ozil will be deeply concerning for the Spaniard. The German made a dismal start to the season against both City and Chelsea – it could be time for Arsenal to seek an alternative when the January transfer window reopens.

One man they should target is Atalanta playmaker – Alejandro Gomez. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the 30-year-old has been tearing up the Serie A in recent seasons. He scored six goals and picked up ten assists last season as he helped his side finish seventh in the table. Gomez made an excellent start to the new campaign, scoring two and assisting two in their opening fixture against Frosinone.

Gomez can play as the number ten, the central striker or the wing – making him perfect for Emery’s 4-2-3-1 system at the Emirates. The Argentinean possesses blistering pace and expert dribbling ability – his eye for goal makes him a constant threat in attack. Approaching the prime of his career, there is no better time to bring him to the Premier League.

Ditching Ozil will be a tough decision to make, but Arsenal must be ruthless and replace him with Gomez as soon as possible.
