Arsenal continued their impressive form in the Premier League with a comfortable 2-0 win over Everton at the Emirates.
After guiding the Gunners to their worst start to a league season in 26 years, the pressure was already building on new boss Unai Emery. However, the Spaniard has responded perfectly, winning four straight games in the Premier League. Goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ensured Emery’s win streak continued against the Toffees.
The result leaves Arsenal hot on the heels of their Premier League rivals at the top of the table. Despite the win, there was another concerning performance from Swiss international – Granit Xhaka. While Lucas Torreira flourished, his midfield partner struggled. Xhaka had more touches of the ball than any other player, but his constant wayward passing hindered his showing. The former Borussia Monchengladbach man needs to be replaced in January.
The perfect signing could be Hertha Berlin wonderkid – Arne Maier. Valued at £6.75m by Transfermarkt, the 19-year-old is considered one of the brightest prospects emerging from Germany after making his debut for the Hertha senior team at the age of 17. The youngster emerged as a key player for his side last season, making 17 appearances in the Bundesliga.
Maier is a box-to-box midfielder who loves to help transition defence into attack. The teenager has averaged two tackles per game this season, highlighting the protection he would offer to the Arsenal back line. Maier also excels with the ball at his feet, completing 88% of his passes this season (WhoScored). The Germany youth international already plays in a 4-2-3-1 formation in Germany meaning he should have no issues adapting to the system at the Emirates.
Emery will find the perfect partner for Torreira if he captures his signature in January.
