It’s that time of year again for Arsenal fans. Results have been poor, chances of top-four are dwindling, and if Arsene Wenger was still at the club the #WengerOut banners are being unfurled at games.
With no Wenger to blame this time around and supporters allowing Unai Emery time to make a few mistakes at the club in his debut season, fans have turned their pitchforks and torches to the Arsenal players, who have thrown away the chance to solidify a top-four spot in the Premier League table by losing their past three games and conceding three goals in each match.
The likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Shkodran Mustafi and Mesut Ozil have all faced criticism from fans for massively underperforming in recent games, and supporters have been calling for a squad clear-out this summer, something many pundits agree with.
Selling players who are below the quality Arsenal fans would expect is not an original concept. During Wenger’s final years at the club, those who weren’t on the bandwagon of sacking the Frenchman were completely for a squad overhaul, and here we are with Emery and the same fans are calling for the same thing, and they’re right.
For too long, Arsenal have been getting away with signing players who are simply not good enough to play for the club, and over the course of a few years, this has damaged the team’s chances of success.
Emery is a manager who is quick to deal with problems once they come up, and this summer could be the time we finally see players who are not good enough to play for a team with big ambitions be sold from north London for good.
Arsenal fans, who would you sell this summer? Let us know!
