Arsenal allegedly agree personal terms ahead of major summer signing

Arsenal fans weren’t expecting too much excitement on transfer Deadline Day but they’ve been surprised in the Transfer Tavern this morning, although the deal will have to wait until the summer.

WhoScored reports that Roma defender Kostas Manolas has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and the Italian side will allow the Greek defender to leave if the Gunners offer £47m.

That figure would see Manolas surpass the club-record held by Mesut Ozil by almost £10m and the 25-year-old would take Arsenal’s spending on central-defenders since 2015 to a whopping £95.2m, with the Gunners signing Gabriel Paulista, Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi in that period so far.

Whilst it would be a mammoth deal, Arsenal will be looking to shore-up their defensive options for the year ahead with Per Mertesacker likely to leave in 18 months, despite just signing a one-year extension, and Laurent Koscielny now the wrong side of 30.

Our landlord believes Manolas would form an excellent partnership with Mustafi at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, and believes it would give the Gunners a back-line that could go on to win numerous honours.

The Gunners fans here in the Tavern are excited about this and thinks Manolas can have a major future in north London!

Should Arsenal splash the cash and bring this defender to the Emirates Stadium? Let us know in the comments below!
