Arsenal and England rocked as top midfielder is ruled out of Euro 2016

He may not be the biggest name for either side, but both the ardent Arsenal fans and those with England’s Euro 2016 campaign in mind have been rocked with the news Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been ruled out of this summer’s showpiece.

The 22-year old has been ruled out with a knee injury ever since the Champions League loss to Barcelona at the Emirates in March, though had previously been expected to recover.

However Sky Sports have revealed that the former Southampton starlet has sustained a new injury to his knee and will miss the next 6-8 weeks.

As a result, the winger is likely to miss the Three Lions’ assault on the European Champions in France this summer, having previously nailed down a place in at least the squad under Roy Hodgson.

He has travelled to the last two international tournaments, though could not make an appearance the World Cup in 2014 due to niggling injuries during England’s short stint there.

It’s been a frustrating few months for the midfielder, whose series of disappointing performances for the Gunners have led to speculation he could be on his way this summer.

Having failed to progress in the way many would have liked across his half decade in North London, moves to Manchester United and West Ham have been mooted in recent months.

How big a loss will ‘The Ox’ prove to be for England this summer?
