With a major money move for Granit Xhaka all but complete, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been sent into dreamland at the latest news their club could be set for another marquee name this summer.
That’s because, according to the Daily Mirror, they are ready to battle Manchester United in a move for Southampton forward Sadio Mane as they line up potential replacements for Leicester City target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The latter has long been linked with a move away from the Gunners for a number of months now after failing to wholly convince fans and pundits alike of his development across his half decade with the club.
In a situation akin to teammate Theo Walcott’s, the lack of progression has been a major source of fan frustration.
Manager Claudio Ranieri is thought to retain an interest in the 22-year old midfielder as he plots what will be a pivotal summer in the East Midlands ahead of their Champions League adventure.
With that in mind, along with the injury sustained by Danny Welbeck, Arsene Wenger is believed to have cast eyes on the South Coast.
Senegalese forward Mane is versatile across the frontline and has proved to be a palpable goal threat in the Premier League ever since arriving on these shores in 2014.
Manchester Untied have also been linked with the 24-year old for much of the past year or so.
Would Mane really be an upgrade on Chamberlain? Would it simply be swapping one inconsistent player for another?
