Arsenal boss reveals stance on want-away West Ham star

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were left giddy with excitement yesterday following links to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet, although it seems their reaction was a tad premature.

The French midfielder made headlines yesterday after Slaven Bilic confirmed that Payet is seeking an exit from the Olympic Stadium and has refused to play for the club, putting him out of action for this weekend’s crucial clash with Crystal Palace.

Links with a number of top sides across Europe soon followed, including a number of sides in the Premier League, but it appears Arsenal won’t be making a move for the 29-year-old playmaker as Arsene Wenger hopes Payet’s situation in East London is resolved.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Wenger said:

‘The vibes you get from the outside are not very positive I must say. I don’t know what’s really behind [the scenes] I just hope that West Ham and Payet can sort this out. It looks very complicated. The boy is not known for this mentality. What is happening to him now only West Ham can explain that.’

Payet’s track record with his behaviour is not great, as he unsuccessfully pushed for an exit from St Etienne to Paris Saint-Germain many years ago before doing similar before he joined West Ham from Marseille.

Our landlord believes Arsenal would do well to avoid a player with such a toxic mentality, as he feels it would be detrimental to the club.
