Arsenal: Brazil ace interested in Gunners switch - Arsenal

Report: South American ace open to Arsenal move this summer

The Sun are reporting that Brazilian full-back Dani Alves would be interested in joining Arsenal this summer following his release from Paris Saint-Germain.

Alves is reportedly open to taking a pay cut to become a Gunner in the coming weeks, with the exclusive report claiming that an Emirates move would appeal most to the defender – with Manchester City and Spurs also said to be interested.

A Gunners move for Alves would see the Brazilian link up once again with Unai Emery, who was his manager at PSG before departing to take over from Arsene Wenger last year.

However, The Sun also note of the right-back’s wages providing a potential obstacle for Arsenal in terms of financing a switch – despite Alves being a free agent and The Gunners seeing players such as Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck leave at the end of last season to drastically cut their wage bill.

The former Barcelona player is thought to be demanding a wage of £200,000 a week to join Arsenal, per The Sun.

At 36, Dani Alves may be approaching the end of his career, but his Player of the Tournament displays at the Copa America for Brazil suggest that he could challenge for a place in the Arsenal team, especially with Hector Bellerin still on the comeback trail from injury and previous backup Stephan Lichtsteiner ending his Gunners career after just one season.

Should 24-year-old Bellerin reclaim his starting place upon his return to fitness, Alves could still be a viable option for Arsenal’s Europa League campaign, which could provide an opportunity to add yet another honour to his long list of accolades.

And given he has previously stated a desire to play in the Premier League one day, the current lack of options in his position at Arsenal may well make the Emirates Stadium a fine destination for Alves to make his name in England.
