Arsenal need to sign an Aaron Ramsey replacement in the summer, and they might just have found the man in Fiorentina’s Jordan Veretout.
Unai Emery is on a tight budget again this summer, so he’s surely on the hunt for bargains. Veretout has played 27 times for his club this season, netting five and assisting three times from midfield. He’s an ex-Aston Villa player too, so he’s no stranger to the English game.
The Frenchman will be prepared for the physicality of playing over here, and his versatility to be able to cover both defensive areas and join attacks suits Emery down to the ground. He wants fast flowing football, and Veretout can facilitate that perfectly. Reports in Le Foot (via Sport Witness) say the Gunners already have their eye on him.
He’s 26, so just approaching his peak. That’s exactly what the manager and club need because, although they’re trying to become regular title challengers, they need to start picking up silverware to keep confidence up.
Patience doesn’t last long in the Premier League.
He’s rated at £22.5m on Transfermarkt and so he doesn’t bust Arsenal’s reduced bank account. It’d be great if they could splash hundreds of million on the best talent, but they can’t. Signing the best from the tier of players below world-class is what they’ll have to do.
Veretout fits that bill perfectly and he’ll be looking to further his career as he hits his prime. Playing for Arsenal could provide the spotlight to get him called up for the French squad, and he’s played for them at all levels apart from the first team.
The move seems attractive for the player and for Arsenal, so who are the club’s board to get in the way of a perfect match?
