Arsenal: Club in three-way battle for Jacob Bruun Larsen

It’s no real secret that this summer Arsenal are in the hunt for a new winger heading into the 2019/20 season.

Unai Emery’s side have constantly been linked with wingers this summer, with the latest reports from Sky Sports News claiming that the Gunners are interested in Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha while the likes of Ryan Fraser (per the Daily Mirror in April) and Yannick Carasco, according to the same outlet last month, have been linked.

Of course, the Ivorian international would be an expensive signing for the Gunners, with Palace quoting the attacker at around £100 million per the Daily Mail, or about £44 million more what Arsenal spent on club record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang according to BBC Sport, and with Football.London reporting that the north London side just have £40 million to spend this summer, a move for Zaha seems out of reach.

With little to spend, a cheaper option could be the best course of action for the Gunners this summer, and the latest report from the Sun indicates that this could be the case as they claim that Arsenal are interested in Borussia Dortmund winger Jacob Bruun Larsen, who has also caught the eye of Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United.

With the report valuing the Danish international at £15 million, Larsen is well within Arsenal’s price range this summer, and his numbers from last season paint the picture of a player who could solve the club’s winger problem for years to come.

Comparing the 20-year-old to Iwobi and Mkhitaryan on stats from WhoScored, Larsen was dispossessed less than both Arsenal wingers at 0.9 times per game, as well as making fewer bad touches per game than the two Gunners attackers at 1.3 times per game.

Larsen also registered more shots per game than Iwobi as well as more through balls than the Nigerian international, all whilst doing this in 374 minutes less than Mkhitaryan, who played the least out of the two Arsenal wingers last season.

The Dane’s first season into professional football has clearly caught the eye of some of the Premier League’s elite, and with Arsenal needing to invest wisely this summer, Larsen could be the smart choice for a new winger this window.

Arsenal fans, would Larsen be a good signing this summer? Let us know!
