Arsenal have offered Shkodran Mustafi to Turkish club Galatasaray.
Will Mustafi leave Arsenal in 2020?
According to Turkish Football, the Gunners have made the Istanbul giants aware through an intermediary source with the Super Lig champions currently looking to strengthen their defence.
It is also being reported that Fatih Terim and the club will meet to discuss whether to pursue the transfer.
The sale of Mustafi would represent the first step in the right direction for the north London giants, who have far too many players on high wages, who simply aren’t good enough.
Take Sokratis and David Luiz as examples, so far this campaign both players have made errors leading to goals in the game against Watford, are the wrong side of 30 and earn £92,000 and £125,673 per week, respectively (via SpotRac).
Overall, Mikel Arteta possesses a defence which is far from able to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City in the hunt for the Premier League title when you look at the fact they’ve shipped almost double (30) the amount of the league leaders.
Mustafi is just one player, who exemplifies how bad the defence is at the Emirates Stadium giants.
The 27-year-old has been a staple in the Europa League this season and averages the second-most fouls per game out of any of his teammates, per WhoScored. Indeed, he’s also been criticised by pundits such as Jamie Carragher during his time in England, so the fact he could be leaving should be looked upon as good news.
Mikel Arteta has a big job at Arsenal, and clearing out players who simply aren’t good enough should be top of that list.
Mustafi is just one of a number of players who need to be shifted in order to create a successful project at the Emirates Stadium. A mixture of his wage, £90k per week, and poor defending makes a transfer away best for both him and the club.
