It’s not even July, and yet Arsenal have already been in the thick of it with transfer rumours and speculation in what has so far been a quiet window for the Gunners.

Before the ever reliable David Ornstein’s news of Unai Emery chasing Kieran Tierney broke, Arsenal’s transfer window has consisted of lots and lots of rumours, with a multitude of players being linked with both a move to north London and a departure from the English capital, and the latest name to fall into the latter category is Lucas Torreira.

According to Sportitalia via the Metro, AC Milan are interested in the Arsenal midfielder, who has only been at the club for a season, and that the Rossoneri have made a two-year loan bid for Torreira with an obligation-to-buy clause of £34 million.

Of course, a move for Torreira this summer seems incredibly unlikely given how important the former Sampdoria man was for Arsenal last season.

Looking at stats from WhoScored, the 23-year-old midfielder averaged 1.9 tackles per game for the Gunners, the third highest in the squad last season.

The South American also averaged 1.2 interceptions per game, the joint fourth highest in the Gunners team, and as well as impressing on the stats sheet, Torreira’s relentless attitude on the pitch and willingness to win every ball made him a quick fan favourite at the Emirates.

His goal against Tottenham was one of the highlights of the season for Arsenal supporters, and his tears after the Europa League final showed that Torreira is a player who genuinely cares about the club, which only adds to the fuel as to why the north London club should not sell the midfielder this summer.

Torreira has added much-needed fighting spirit and heart to an Arsenal side that over the years have been criticised by the likes of former player Kevin Campbell as per the Football Faithful for their lack of passion, and selling a midfielder who could easily become a club icon in the future for a quick payday is something that Emery should not be even contemplating.

Arsenal fans, how important is Torreira to the squad? Let us know!
