‘Letting club down’ – Pundit lays into Arsenal ace over controversial decision
Ex-footballer Danny Mills has slammed Arsenal centre-back Laurent Koscielny following the Gunners captain’s decision to stay at home during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Koscielny was absent as the squad jetted off to America where they will face the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in preparation for the season ahead.
The club’s statement, which was released last Thursday, revealed the reasons behind Koscielny’s non-appearance, expressing their disappointment at their skipper’s actions.
The player has yet to be disciplined by the club and his future in North London remains uncertain as a result.
But former Premier League defender Mills has not been impressed by the centre-back’s behaviour, accusing Koscielny of “letting the club down”.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “You’re letting the club down, letting yourself down, it’s a very strange situation. It doesn’t look good for the club.
“You don’t turn around and say I’m not doing this, I’m not doing that. You rub the fans up the wrong way, rub the club up the wrong way.
“I just wonder if something else has happened that we don’t know about, that he’s been promised something and then that promise has been taken away.”
Former Arsenal teammate Olivier Giroud also recently commented on the matter to that end, saying “I’m pretty sure we don’t know everything in this situation,” in an interview with the BBC.
And without knowing the ins-and-outs of the situation, it is difficult to form an opinion on the rift between captain and club. His decision to stay at home during pre-season lacks the required professionalism from anyone, never mind the captain.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
