Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have admitted they’re not expecting too much from the final week of the transfer window but the latest reports have got them talking.
Spanish outlet Don Balon state Arsenal are expressing an interest in Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez, who made just 12 La Liga appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s title-winning side last season and continues to find himself near the bottom of the pecking order.
Real Madrid’s spectacular depth out wide puts the likes of Gareth Bale, Isco and young prodigy Marco Asensio ahead of Vazquez and the 26-year-old is desperate for first-team opportunities that Los Blancos cannot offer.
Arsenal are seeking a player like Vazquez as a replacement for star-man Alexis Sanchez, who continues to be linked with an exit heading into the final week of the transfer window as their Chilean ace is no closer to signing a new deal.
The Gunners may see Vazquez as an option regardless of whether Alexis Sanchez stays or goes though, as they’ve been chasing the signature of Thomas Lemar all summer.
If Arsenal want to bolster their options on the wings then Lucas Vazquez is a solid choice. However, he doesn’t necessarily provide the improvement that the Gunners would be landing if they were to secure a name like Thomas Lemar.
With Alex Iwobi, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott already at the club, Arsenal have depth in the wide areas and Vazquez doesn’t stand-out as a superior player to that aforementioned trio. As such, this would be a strange signing.
