Arsenal supporters have been pretty upbeat in recent times after seeing their team record a seventh straight victory in all competitions at the weekend.

Unai Emery’s men went into their encounter with Watford in the Premier League having won each of their previous four league matches, alongside successes in the Europa League and indeed the Carabao Cup. And the Gunners made it seven on the spin on Saturday as a Mesut Ozil strike alongside a Craig Cathcart own goal sealed a 2-0 victory for the North London giants, thus moving them up to fifth place in the Premier League table.

Thus, there have been many happy Arsenal fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter to call for their side to give Danny Welbeck a new contract, with reports suggesting that an agreement with the 27-year-old is not currently close.

And such has been the £13.5 million-rated (as per Transfermarkt) ace’s form in 2018, the Gunners and manager Emery would be wise to retain the services of the England international.

Ultimately, Arsenal were seen to have pulled quite the transfer coup when they lured Welbeck away from Manchester United back in 2014, although he has mainly been on the peripheries of the first team since making the move to the Emirates Stadium.

In fact, of his 119 appearances for the Gunners, only 73 have been starts, although he has enjoyed arguably one of his better spells at the club since the turn of the year in netting six times in the second half of last season under Arsene Wenger, form which earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup during the summer.

And the confidence Welbeck seems to have re-discovered has been evident this term as well in bagging four goals in seven appearances for Emery’s side - he may not be a regular starter, but there is no doubt that he’s an asset to have in the Arsenal squad.

Yes, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are more proven goal-scorers and will command a regular spot ahead of the 27-year-old, but that’s not to say that Welbeck doesn’t have an impact on this Arsenal side - four goals already this term suggests he’s a key part of the squad.

And in chasing down lost causes alongside showing versatility in being able to play down the flanks, the Englishman brings a lot of different but important qualities to Emery’s squad, and as such his presence certainly boosts the forward department.

Thus, those Arsenal fans calling for their club to give Welbeck a new deal are absolutely spot on, as the 27-year-old could be a big asset under Emery going forward at the Emirates Stadium.
