It’s not been an easy start to life at Arsenal for Unai Emery, who has had some hard games to deal with during the early stages of his tenure at the Emirates. Indeed, with Manchester City and Chelsea first up, the Spaniard has had a baptism of fire, though the pressure is on today at home to West Ham United.
The Gunners have looked at times despite the result though, as ever, have struggled in the big games. In fact, no one Arsenal player sums that conundrum up better than Mesut Ozil.
Largely anonymous in both of the opening games despite a fairly lengthy pre-season in contrast to other World Cup stars, the German hasn’t performed. Clearly, like the rest of the team, there are mitigating circumstances in terms of the games they played while getting used to a new system.
Still, we thought it best to ask Arsenal fans online whether or not the former Real Madrid man should be dropped today. Usually, games of this manner – at home to a midtable side – are when Ozil is at his best. However, as you’ll see in the results of our poll, the tide is turning on him.
A huge 79% of polled supporters want him dropped for today’s game after presumably running out of patience with a man who should be dominating the biggest games in the world, considering his talent, price tag and wage demands.
Could this be the end of Ozil? If he doesn’t pick it up, it’s hard to see a way back.
