Arsenal supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their side record a second straight Premier League victory at the weekend.

Unai Emery’s men went into their clash with newly-promoted Cardiff City off the back of beating West Ham in their previous league encounter, thus giving the Spaniard his first victory since taking over from Arsene Wenger during the summer. And the Gunners made it two wins out of two in the Welsh capital on Sunday as goals from Shkodran Mustafi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Alexandre Lacazette secured a 3-2 victory for the North London giants, with goals from Victor Camasara and Danny Ward not enough to earn the Bluebirds a point.

As such, there have been many upbeat Arsenal fans up and down the country in recent times, although some have taken to Twitter in recent times to criticise defender Laurent Koscielny's agent, with many calling for the club to get rid of the France international.

And while the 32-year-old maybe isn’t quite as good as he used to be, he still seems to be the best centre back at the Emirates Stadium, which is why selling the £90,000-a-week ace (as per Spotrac) could be a massive mistake.

Ultimately, while the Gunners have been praised for their efforts going forward, both in the early stages of this season and indeed last term under Wenger, they remain very suspect defensively.

Germany international Mustafi made a fine start to life at the Emirates but hasn’t proven to be the answer to their centre back troubles, while summer signing Sokratis has shown glimpses of promise, but is another who hasn’t wholly convinced.

And with Rob Holding and even natural left back Nacho Monreal having been used in the heart of the Arsenal defence in recent times, it’s clear that the plethora of quality defensive options simply isn’t there for Emery, which is why he not only needs Koscielny back from injury, but he should also make sure that he retains the centre back.

The 32-year-old has been the rock at the heart of the Gunners backline pretty much ever since he made the move to North London back in 2010, with the defender playing 324 games for Arsenal, 238 of which coming in the Premier League.

In fact, it has been noted by many that former boss Wenger has been trying to find a partner for Koscielny as opposed to be seeking to replace him over the years, which is the clearest indication that the Gunners simply need to retain the Frenchman.

Yes, he maybe isn’t as solid as he used to be, and may take time to get back to a top level post-injury, but the 32-year-old still remains the best centre back at the Emirates, and during a time in which Emery is seeking to solidify things at the club, it would be wholly unwise for him to sanction his departure.

In fact, listening to those supporters who are calling for his departure could well be a massive mistake.
