Arsenal supporters have been pretty upbeat in recent times after seeing their side record a seventh straight victory in all competitions last time round.
Unai Emery’s men went into their meeting with Watford in the Premier League having won each of their previous four league matches, alongside victories in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup. And the Gunners continued their recent resurgence at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday as a Mesut Ozil strike alongside a Craig Cathcart own goal sealed a 2-0 success for Emery’s side, thus moving them up to fifth place in the Premier League table.
Thus, there have been many thrilled Arsenal fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom are looking ahead to their Europa League clash against Qarabag this evening, with plenty taking to Twitter to call for left back Sead Kolasinac to earn a start.
And given how impressive the £16.2 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) looked at times last season, those Gunners supporters are spot on to call for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international to earn his first start under Emery this evening, in what would be a wise move by the Arsenal chief.
Ultimately, the North Londoners secured the 25-year-old’s signature on a free transfer last term following his departure from German side Schalke, and the left back went on to impress greatly as a wing back in Arsene Wenger’s side, finishing the season with five goals and four assists in all competitions.
However, he was in and out of the side in the second half of the campaign given his obvious frailties defensively, while a knee injury has seen him miss the early weeks of Emery’s tenure at the club, returning to the bench in the victory over Watford on Saturday.
But with their European campaign likely to take its toll on the squad between now and the New Year, Emery must in a position to rotate and keep his squad fresh in the coming weeks and months, and with Nacho Monreal having started and indeed finished each of their last eight games, the 32-year-old may benefit from a rest.
And Kolasinac is the man whom Emery simply has to call upon against Qarabag this evening, as while he maybe isn’t as good defensively as Spaniard Monreal, he certainly offers a huge amount going forward.
The Gunners haven’t been particularly brilliant at the back so far this season but look a serious threat every time they go forward, and some of that is down to the advanced positions the full backs get into, with Monreal and Hector Bellerin often getting into the final third to help out in attack.
And with Emery seemingly wanting that from his full backs, 25-year-old Kolasinac could be a huge asset to the Spaniard going forward this term – after all, he finished last season with five goals and four assists in 36 games for the club.
And having spent a sizable chunk of time on the sidelines recently, easing the Bosnian back into action through the Europa League could be the way to go for Emery, which is why those Arsenal fans calling for him to start this evening are absolutely spot on.
