Many Arsenal fans are drooling over Pablo Mari’s Premier League debut against West Ham United, with some fans already comparing the defender to club-legend Sol Campbell and Italian icon Paolo Maldini.
The Spaniard made just his second appearance for the Gunners on the weekend since joining on loan from Brazilian side Flamengo in January. Arsenal have an option to buy him in the summer and many fans are looking on the club to take up that option after his recent performances.
He achieved a 7.2 rating on Sofascore and achieved the joint-most number of clearances, alongside David Luiz, with eight. He also had the second most number of touches on the ball (96) behind Dani Ceballos, showing how comfortable he is with the ball at his feet. He was also top of the Gunners’ squad for long balls (16) and only behind former Gooner and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski (23) out of everybody who played, demonstrating that he is not afraid to set off attacks early for the north London side.
Mari will be looking to start Arsenal’s next Premier League game away at Manchester City on Wednesday if Skhodran Mustafi’s latest injury keeps him out of the game. It would be his first away start in the top flight and they do not come much tougher than City, who will be looking to avenge their 2-0 defeat to neighbours Manchester United over the weekend. These Arsenal fans are drooling over the central defender already, with one fan even claiming a ‘masterclass’ against the reigning Premier League champions is coming while others said he has been ‘unleashed’:
