Many Arsenal fans have given their opinions after seeing that former youngster Donyell Malen scored an incredible five goals for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie over the weekend.
Plenty of fans voiced their concerns over a number of issues, most of which revolved around questioning whether Arsenal had a buy-back clause for the attacker and the fear that this could be another Serge Gnabry on their hands. Indeed, the Germany international only featured 18 times for the Gunners’ first-team, scoring once, but has reached new heights since leaving north London, having produced 13 goals and 11 assists in just 46 games at Bayern Munich, as well as winning Bayern Munich’s Player of the Year award for the 2018/19 campaign.
Malen scored five at the Philips Stadion on Saturday evening as PSV ran riot, winning 5-0 to keep them second in the league table on goal difference and giving Vitesse their first loss of the season.
Donyell Malen, just 20, left Arsenal in 2017 to join PSV after joining Arsenal’s academy from Ajax in 2015. He joined for an undisclosed fee despite impressing very much for Arsenal’s youth teams, and two years on his move looks to be justified as he is showing himself to be one of the top Dutch attacking talents.
Malen made his Netherlands debut over the last international break, coming on during their Group C qualifier versus Germany and scoring against their arch-rivals in a 4-2 win. He then started the next match versus Estonia, playing 63 minutes in their 4-0 win before being substituted.
Here are some of the Arsenal responses below…
