In the wake of France Football reporting that Arsenal are likely to complete a deal for Layvin Kurzawa from Paris Saint-Germain, a number of Gunners fans feel that they already have a reliable left-back option at the club.
Bukayo Saka has had a succession of games on the left-hand side defence in recent weeks and was again deployed in that position by Mikel Arteta today in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Sheffield United, having played as a left-sided midfielder or attacker earlier in the season.
The 18-year-old claimed an assist against the Blades as it was he who provided the cross from which Gabriel Martinelli put the home side in front at the Emirates Stadium just before half-time. The teenager played three accurate long balls from the left flank this afternoon and his total of 72 passes was the third highest among the Arsenal line-up.
In terms of defensive duties, he won two tackles and made one interception, with his performance lauded by Dan Mountney of Islington Gazette, who wrote of Saka: “For someone who isn’t a left-back, he certainly looks like one. Another assured performance out of position from the youngster as he continues to impress for Arteta’s men.”
These Gunners fans feel that the 18-year-old could be a long-term solution at left-back, with some hoping that Kurzawa won’t be signed and one feeling the Arsenal teenager is “perfect” in that role:
Saka our most influential player this game so far. Kurzawa who?
