Arsenal fans were left lauding Lucas Torreira after the Uruguayan’s performance in the defeat to Chelsea yesterday.
The midfielder put in an all-action display in the middle of the park as he made the second-most interceptions and the third-most clearances for his side (via WhoScored).
He also proved useful in attack as he completed the second-most dribbles (2) and was the joint-most fouled player on the pitch (4).
His start in the defeat was his ninth in the last 10 Premier League games for the Gunners. It comes in stark contrast to the start of the season, where Torreira started just two of the first 10 under former head coach Unai Emery (via Transfermarkt).
He seemed to be facing an uncertain future at the north London outfit with his own agent claiming his role under Emery made him ‘unhappy’ (Radio Marteof via Calcio Mercato).
It saw reports of a potential move to Napoli emerge (Corriere Dello Sport via Calcio Mercato), however, after nine starts in 10 top-flight games, life at the Emirates Stadium is now looking much brighter.
Fans were full of praise for their diminutive midfielder as they took to Twitter to lavish him with good words, with one supporter quick to compare him to Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets.
Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:

Arteta turned Torreira into Busquets in a week. I’m dead.

A brave performance from Arsenal, Torreira looked superb, Ozil played very well, Nelson tore up the right side, but this man of the match performance managed to nullify all of that pic.twitter.com/pEoMhoDsaa
