Arsenal defender David Luiz was hailed by a number of Gunners fans on Twitter for his involvement in his team’s goal this afternoon.

In the 12th minute of the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace, the Brazilian played an inviting, perfectly weighted pass through to Mesut Ozil, who fed Alexandre Lacazette to play in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to open the scoring at Selhurst Park. Luiz also had a central role in the home side’s equaliser, with Jordan Ayew’s shot deflecting off him on its way into the Arsenal net eight minutes into the second half. [via Sky Sports]

The Brazil defender played 88 passes for the Gunners this afternoon, the most of anyone in Mikel Arteta’s line-up, and ended the day with a passing success rate of 83%. He made abundant use of the long ball against the Eagles, with 22 such passes (15 of which found a team-mate) almost twice as many as the next-most regular long passer Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
