Arsenal fans mocked the decision to bring on Lucas Torreira in the 2-1 home loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League last night.
The Uruguayan midfielder was brought on for Shkodran Mustafi, who appeared to pick up an injury just minutes before the change.
At the time, the Gunners were 2-1 down to the German side after Daichi Kamada struck a brilliant second-half double to turn the game on its head.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had given the north London side the lead in the first-half, however, two goals in less than 10 minutes ensured the side suffered their first home defeat of the season (via BBC).
The final substitution wasn’t the only strange change of the night with Emery deciding to bring off Gabriel Martinelli, who was rated as the side’s joint-best player by Football.London.
Fans were less than forgiving towards the Basque-born manager, who was sacked by the club as a result of the loss last night (via Arsenal).
Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:
2-1 down. In need of a goal.
Nicolas Pépé? No.
Alexandre Lacazette? No.
Lucas Torreira. The defensive midfielder, Lucas Torreira.
