Arsenal fans have been left less than pleased after The Athletic’s David Ornstein updated them on the latest news concerning the club’s search for a permanent manager.
According to the journalist, Mikel Arteta is currently the club’s number one target, with one source claiming it is as close as being Arteta’s call, while others claim he still has to go through an interviewing process.
Should Gabriel Martinelli be a starter at Arsenal?
Reports from ESPN could go a long way to confirming the news broken by Ornstein after the American publication reported that Marcelino, another target, is not optimistic about being offered the role.
Arteta has been heaped with praise from the Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who claims that the 37-year-old could succeed him at the club as he called him ‘smart’ (via The Telegraph).
However, fans don’t seem to be convinced about the Spaniard taking over as they took to Twitter to react.
Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:
Arteta will not fix a thing!

What did this hipster do to deserve all this hype? We should be begging Pochettino

How embarrassing. If Guardiola can’t sort out City’s defence then how will Arteta sort out Arsenals? Are we that desperate we’re going for Arteta simply because he use to play for Arsenal? No other team wants him as manager so why does that mean he’s suddenly good enough for us?

The only club Arteta is linked with is Arsenal. If he was as good as people say(also 0 experience) he would be in other clubs’ shortlist too. Mediocre board trying to get a cheap fix for problems which have plagued the club for ages.

Would be a terrible appointment. Weak individual as a player and captain
