Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have had a rare opportunity to praise striker, Danny Welbeck, after a positive showing at the San Siro last night in the Europa League. The fans’ opinion on Welbeck has been poor as of late but if the ex-Manchester United man puts in more displays like last night, fans will have no choice but to get behind their man.
Arsenal came into their Europa League fixture against AC Milan in shocking form, losing their previous four games in all competitions. However, Wenger’s side came out like men possessed yesterday as they took the game to Milan, forcing the Rossoneri to watch on as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey netted first-half goals. The result means that Arsenal are well in control of the tie as Milan travel to the Emirates next Thursday needing to score at least twice.
A number of players who’ve come under criticism recently stood up to be counted in Milan, including Welbeck. Despite the striker failing to find the net, the 27-year-old was a constant thorn in the side of Gennaro Gattuso’s defence making runs in behind and stretching centre-back pairing Leonardo Bonucci and Alessio Romagnoli for the full 90 minutes. Milan won’t be looking forward to coming up against Welbeck again in six days time as they fight to stay in Europe.

Get can’t my round round us dominating AC Milan at the San Siro with Welbeck, Chambers and Xhaka (all played superb). We need this every week! #afc

Of course Aubameyang is a better footballer, but when you’re away from home it’s vital your striker runs the defence ragged. Being able to challenge in the air and be a threat in behind is a rare quality. Welbeck gave it all, and was superb last night #afc

Welbeck was for the most part brilliant. Got on the ball quite a bit and looked dangerous at times. Played a great ball to Mkhitaryan who should have finished it. #afc
