Arsenal fans have heaped the praise on defender Rob Holding for winning his battle with Jamie Vardy in the Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Leicester City at the Emirates on Monday.
The 22-year-old looked solid in defence, keeping Vardy from finding dangerous spaces as he has done so often in the past against Arsenal. The centre-forward scored three goals in two matches against the North London club last season but was made to work hard for opportunities on Monday, mainly due to Holding and Shkodran Mustafi’s tight defending.
Holding, however was lucky not to concede a penalty in the first-half after it appeared that he handled the ball in the box from a James Maddison free-kick, but fortunately for the former Bolton Wanderers man, referee Chris Kavanagh waved away the loud appeals by Leicester players.
Holding has stepped up impressively in the absence of Sokratis Papastathopoulos and looks to be enjoying his football at the moment.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions by Arsenal fans:
Really underrated performance by Rob Holding. Kept Vardy quiet all game with good positioning & winning the duels. Improving game by game under Emery. Bargain of the decade for £2m.
