Many Arsenal fans have pleaded for Gabriel Martinelli to start against London rivals West Ham United at the Emirates in the Premier League on Saturday.
This comes after a post from the official Arsenal Twitter page, which displayed a picture of the youngster with a caption that he will be back ‘soon’, referring to the game against David Moyes’ side. This could indicate that the Brazilian may play a part in the match and may even start, which many fans are calling for him to do. The 18 year-old has hit the ground running for the Gunners since joining them from Brazilian football under close inspection from technical director and former invincible Edu.
In stats provided by Transfermarkt this season, ‘Gabigoal’ as he has branded by some Arsenal fans has made a total of 26 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring ten goals and providing four assists, which is impressive considering he has had to adapt to a new country and English football. He especially impressed on his debut when he scored two goals and got one assist against Belgian side Standard Liege in the Europa League in front of his own fans (also via Transfermarkt).
These Gooners have been particularly impressed by his performances, so much so that they have called on Mikel Arteta to start him against the Hammers, with one fan even claiming there will be ‘consequences’ if he does not:
