Loads of Arsenal fans have reacted to a post from the north London club’s official Twitter page showing Mikel Arteta’s strike against Manchester City in the Premier League back in 2012.
The throwback footage shows the former central midfield player now manager nicking the ball before firing a shot into the bottom corner from outside of the box. The strike was the only goal of the game and is perhaps mostly remembered for dealing a potentially huge blow to City’s title hopes as they went toe-to-toe with arch rivals Manchester United that campaign, as reported by the BBC.
Arteta made 150 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, scoring 16 goals and providing a further 11 assists, according to Transfermarkt. Indeed, the Spaniard has now gone on to manage the club, where his record currently stands at eight wins, five draws and two defeats after 15 games, as per the website.
Despite only being in charge for 15 matches, one Gooner asked for the 38-year old to be sacked, jokingly or not, whilst loads of other supporters heaped praise on Arteta’s screamer.
These supporters shared their thoughts on Twitter:
