Arsenal: Fans refute claims from former legend that club should’ve signed Fabian Delph

Arsenal fans have refuted claims from legend Paul Merson that the club should have signed Fabian Delph in the summer transfer window.

Merson told Sky Sports (via Metro) that the England international is a better option than any of the three midfielders who started against Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Arsenal man also said that Delph could have slotted in at left-back ahead of Sead Kolasinac for last Sunday’s game.

Delph joined Everton from champions Manchester City on a three-year deal for a fee believed to be £9m.

The Englishman has had an immediate impact for the Toffees, winning plaudits when Everton ran out 3-2 winners at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Delph enjoyed a positive spell with Pep Guardiola’s team as he won back-to-back Premier League titles (via Transfermarkt).

Fans were less than certain about Merson’s comments about Delph, as they took to Twitter to refute the claims from the Sky Sports pundit.

Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:
