Arsenal: Fans tear into Sokratis after recent performance - Arsenal

Arsenal fans have torn into Sokratis Papastathopoulos on Twitter for his display against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners were fortunate to come away from the game with a point as Alexandre Lacazette bailed Unai Emery’s side out twice, having seen the Saints go into the lead on two separate occasions.

Danny Ings had broken the deadlock inside the first ten minutes, whilst James Ward-Prowse would have given the visitors hope of picking up all three points with just 20 minutes to go (BBC).

Whilst the performance and the result left a number of boos ringing around the Emirates Stadium at the final whistle, Sokratis’ rather poor showing did not escape the attention of many of the Arsenal faithful that had taken to social media.

According to the data collected by WhoScored, the 31-year-old enforcer managed to make two tackles, two clearances and block one shot which led to a rating of just 6.51.

A plethora of supporters had taken to Twitter to vent their frustration with the Greek centre-back, whilst others were in a state of disbelief at just how bad he had performed – with one fan questioning if he was better than the likes of Pascal Cygan, Philippe Senderos.

One fan even admitted that they felt sorry for Shkodran Mustafi, which is perhaps saying something.

Here are just some of their reactions to Sokratis’ performance…
