Shkodran Mustafi has become a joke over the last few months. Indeed, Unai Emery needs to get rid of him in summer and Getafe’s Djene Dakonam would make the perfect replacement ahead of their title challenge next season.

The Togo international has impressed in La Liga this campaign, playing 32 games and making a major contribution to them sitting in fourth spot. They’ve conceded less goals than both Barcelona and Real Madrid, so it’s no wonder Marca believe Arsenal are after their top centre-back.

He’s rated at £13.5m on Transfermarkt, so he’d be a bargain if Unai Emery could snap him up for that much. The Gunners don’t have much to spend in summer, so they have to sign him as soon as possible because deals this worthwhile are few and far between.

Bringing him in would mean Mustafi could leave and that’d put the Arsenal faithful in good spirits before they’ve even seen their new man play. He’s 27-years-old and is right in his prime. That’s ideal for Emery who needs immediate success to get the ball rolling and keep confidence in him high.

When Arsenal attack with pace, they commit more men forward than a more reserved side would. This leaves gaps between the midfield and defence. They need a strong back four to cope with defending those big spaces. Dakonam must be part of that.

Mustafi has been given his chance, but he’s clearly not good enough. It’s time for Emery to sure up his defence and allow his midfield to focus more on attacking. Bringing in the likes of Dakonam would do just that and see off the dead wood too.
