It’s no secret that Arsenal are in need of new signings this summer, but there is a clear area of the pitch where the Gunners are in need of improvements and there are also positions where Unai Emery’s side are largely fine.

One of these positions in the latter category is strikers, where Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang formed one of the best strike partnerships in the Premier League with the duo contributing to 35 goals between them via Transfermarkt, yet that hasn’t stopped the press from linking the Gunners to another attacker.

The Sun reports that Emery is to ask the Arsenal board for extra funds in order to pursue Crystal Palace attacker Wilfried Zaha, who has made his intentions clear that he wants out of the south London side this transfer window (via the Daily Mail in April).

There is no doubt that the Ivorian international is a talented player given his impressive record at Palace over the years in the Premier League, but Zaha is someone Arsenal are not in desperate need of this summer, and more importantly, can’t be wasting money on.

The problems at Arsenal are clear. With 51 goals conceded last season in the league alone, the Gunners are one of the most defensively frail sides in the top-six. Scoring has not been a problem for the club, keeping them out has been, and blowing a huge chunk of money from the limited transfer budget Stan Kroenke and co have set on an attacker like Zaha is a sure-fire way to fix something that isn’t even broken.

Zaha has proven he is a player arguably capable of making that step-up after seasons of dominance with Palace, but the former Manchester United man is simply not what the Gunners need, and pursuing him even longer will be a massive mistake.

Arsenal fans, would you take Zaha this summer? Let us know!
