The publication are also claiming that the Catalan giants want to get rid of the player as soon as possible and will accept ‘any of proposals it has coming’ from the Premier League.
However, the Gunners are not the only club from England in for the 26-year-old with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United also registering their interest.
It would be hard to justify the signing of a player, who has shown over the last few seasons that he is quite injury prone.
The north London outfit have already suffered three major injuries to defenders, Calum Chambers, Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin, over the past year or so. So, the last thing they’ll need is a player who has suffered eight different injuries since joining the Spanish club in 2016 (via Transfermarkt).
There is also question marks over how much quality the former Olympique Lyonnais man actually possesses.
In La Liga this season, Umtiti has averaged more fouls (1.6) and fewer number of tackles (0.6) per game when compared to any defender, who has started more than one top-flight game.
To add a defender, who does look to be worse than the current options available in terms of some key metrics wouldn’t be smart business from the Gunners.
Young and progressive was the theme the Gooners followed in last summer’s transfer market with five of the six signings having been 23-years-old or younger at the time. So, Umtiti, at 26, wouldn’t match that theme and perhaps Arteta would be better coaching than a younger defender like Dayot Upamecano, who the side have been linked with.
