Arsenal: Malcom could be a cheaper option to continue rebuild

Arsenal: Malcom could be a cheaper option to continue rebuild - Arsenal

With the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Ryan Fraser both being linked with moves to Arsenal this summer via BBC Sport and the Evening Standard, a winger is seemingly on Unai Emery’s agenda this transfer window.

Indeed, another option there who has recently been rumoured with a move to north London is Barcelona winger Malcom, who according to Sport, is a target for Arsenal and a player the Gunners are interested in bringing in on loan for the upcoming season with an option to buy next year.

The La Liga champions signed Malcom last summer from Bordeaux for a reported fee of £36.5 million via BBC Sport. However, the Brazilian has failed to live up to that transfer fee massively with the 22-year-old scoring just four goals and assisting two in all competitions for the Catalan giants.

While the Blaugrana are understood to favour a sale in order to raise funds, the player himself is understood to want to choose his next destination in terms of a sporting project and the report mentions the Gunners as a potential suitor.

Of course, loaning in another fringe player from Barcelona is enough to bring doubt to some Arsenal supporters given how ineffective Denis Suarez was for the club last season, as the Spanish midfielder played just 95 minutes of first-team football for the Gunners during his five-month loan stint, but in Malcom’s case, it couldn’t be more different.

With Arsenal looking for a winger this summer given the aforementioned links to Zaha and Fraser as well as rumours of a move for free agent Yacine Brahimi via the Evening Standard, the South American could be a player that can fill out this criteria.

Indeed, the Brazilian international thrived out wide during his breakout year at Bordeaux in which the youngster scored 12 goals and registered seven assists for the Ligue 1 side, and with Arsenal having a reported transfer budget of just £40 million as per Football London, Malcom could be a smart option for the season.

With the club prioritising a centre-back and a box-to-box midfielder this summer according to BBC Sport, going in for Malcom makes financial sense for the Gunners, who would have to pay up to £100 million for Zaha according to the Daily Mail. After conceding the second most goals out of any side in the top-six last season, they surely need to reserve funds for other positions such as the centre-back one they have prioritised.

Arsenal fans, would you take Malcom this summer? Let us know!
