After watching their title hopes take a pretty big blow in midweek, the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern really needed some cheering up.
Amid persistent rumours about star men Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, it’s fair to say the mood amongst the Gunners propping up the bar has been rather low.
So, thanks to quotes sourced from the Daily Mail, things could be looking up for the Emirates faithful at last.
Speaking in his press conference before this weekend’s huge clash with Manchester City, Arsene Wenger has revealed Danny Welbeck is closing in on a return.
The England international has been plagued by injuries during his spell in north London, missing action since picking up a knee injury at the Etihad in May.
That injury followed a 10-month layoff that ruled him out until February, though there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for the former Manchester United man.
With Alexis Sanchez deployed as a central striker, only Olivier Giroud and Lucas Perez back him up, giving Le Prof another attacking option.
Still, the Frenchman has insisted the 26-year-old has a long way to go before he can be considered match fit.
”Danny Welbeck is one week away from completing normal training,’ Wenger said.
‘To be back in the squad; that will take some time because he wasn’t played for a long, long time.’
