With the news of Hector Herrera leaving FC Porto this summer, many of Europe’s top teams have been put on high alert.

The Mexican international will end six-years in Portugal come the end of the season when the 29-year-old midfielder heads for the exit door when his contract runs out in Porto, and teams will be fighting for his signature.

Whilst Atletico Madrid remains in pole position, other teams around Europe will be hoping they will be able to swoop in the last minute to secure the signature of Herrera, with one of those sides being Arsenal.

The Gunners have long been admirers of the Mexican playmaker, who signed for Porto in 2013 for a reported £6.9 million, and if Unai Emery is able to pull off a deal to bring Herrera to Arsenal, it could be the missing piece to get the best out of Lucas Torreira and thus forming one of the best midfield duos in the Premier League.

Torreira has established himself easily as Arsenal’s best central midfielder this season and added a lot to the starting XI that has been missing over the years, but trying to find that perfect partner for him has proven to be difficult with Granit Xhaka’s form being inconsistent and Matteo Guendouzi not yet ready for that step-up, but Herrera would solve all that.

The duo together have everything you could want from a midfield pivot, and as well as both being native Spanish speakers which will only make communication better, Herrera and Torreira have what it takes to form the best pairing in the Premier League.
