Journalist Julien Laurens believes that Patrick Vieira could replace manager Unai Emery as manager of the club in the future.
Is Patrick Vieira the man to save Arsenal?
Appearing on talkSPORT, the French journalist said that Vieira is part of the shortlist to replace the Spaniard, and lauded him for the job he’s done at OGC Nice.
He said: “I think we’re still far away from Unai Emery leaving the club and having to find a replacement, but if and when it happens Patrick Vieira will be on the shortlist and rightly so.”
“This season they are 12th in the table but only two points from fourth place in a tight Ligue 1, so there have been a lot of good things Vieira has done.” (Source: talkSPORT)
Replacing Emery shouldn’t be too hard for any manager after his poor choice of tactics in recent weeks and lack of clear communication with his side.
The Basque-born coach has taken a pragmatic approach to many games this season with the club allowing many shots at goal. Arsenal have allowed their opponents to have more shots than them in 11 of their 18 games across all competitions (via Orbinho).
Winger Bukayo Saka was far from complimentary over Emery’s ability to speak English, claiming he has to seek the help of assistant coach Freddie Ljungberg due to the Spaniard’s failure to communicate effectively (via The Express).
In stark contrast, Vieira is flying high with his Nice side in Ligue 1 this year. Despite selling key players like Allan Saint-Maximin, his side sits just four points off a Champions League place in the French top-flight (via Sky Sports).
Vieira also spent the best part of nine years in north London and has a brilliant grasp of the English language, meaning communication should be no problem for the former midfielder.
Vieira’s experience with Nice shows he can be a viable candidate to take over from Emery should he need replacing in the near future. The Gunners legend has shown he has an ability to mould a squad around his way of thinking seen in their battle to attain Champions League football this year.
